Emily Taphouse lost husband but bulldogs help her daughters grieve

0 13

In 2016, Emily Taphouse faced a devastating tragedy. She found herself feeling alone after her husband, Korey was struck and killed by a hit and run driver. The absence of Korey left her at her lowest. She found it very hard to fill the hole and she was now looking after her two daughters, then 4 and 2-years-old, alone.

She worried that her daughters, Hazel and June, would be lost without their daddy as Emily herself was struggling to deal with her grief. Hazel definitely found the loss of her dad very hard.

Telling her that her dad died, and also that she wasn’t able to see him, was almost worse than the accident itself.

After the tragedy, the family needed a fresh start, so they sold their home to move closer to the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Emily also decided to add a new addition to the family, a white and brown bulldog puppy called Fern.

The Taphouse family found it hard to move on

As soon as Fern entered the home, Hazel and June immediately warmed to the pup. Emily would find her daughters snuggling up against the lovable pup and Fern’s love helped comfort their grieving.

It’s like I could feel a patch be placed on my heart. I watched as my girls squealed and played and loved on her. She changed everything.

As Fern grew bigger, Emily noticed she would get noticeably sad every time she had to leave playtime with other puppies. Despite being adored by her human family, Emily knew Fern was craving a doggy companion.

It seemed that every dog we were finding in the shelters and adoption groups was either not good with small kids, or kitties, or was too old to keep up with our 1-year-old stinker.

Emily knew at that moment that it was love at first sight

Fern brought the playful side and fun back into the family’s lives and Juno has become their comforting cuddle buddy. Together, these two Bulldogs have managed to change the lives of the Taphouse family.

They are light and healing in the sweetest packages.
